Paul Kenny

In February 2009, during my senior year of high school, I tore my ACL, MCL, and meniscus. In an instant, junior hockey, collegiate athletics, and any future sports aspirations seemed out of reach. The hardest part of recovery wasn’t just the physical work—it was trying to understand why it happened. I had been strength training since the age of 12, stretched regularly, and took care of my body. So how could this injury occur?

After 10 months of physical therapy and strength training, I returned to the ice to play hockey for the University of Rhode Island. Initially, I pursued physical therapy, but after an internship as a PT aide, I realized my passion wasn’t treating injuries after the fact—it was helping athletes prevent them in the first place. That summer, I committed to a career in youth athletic development and injury prevention.

Upon graduating from URI, I worked at a sports training facility specializing in youth athletics. During my time in Rhode Island, I had the opportunity to work with the Providence Bruins (AHL) in their off-ice strength & conditioning/player development program and also assisted with the Boston Bruins organization.

After several years in New England, I relocated to Downingtown, joined Marino’s Fitness, and went on to create Philadelphia Area Sports Training (PHAST)—formerly known as MAP. My vision has always been to build PHAST into the premier sports performance facility in the Philadelphia area.

Ten years later, I am still learning, growing, and committed to providing the best training practices for every athlete who walks through our doors. As a former collegiate athlete, I understand firsthand what it takes to succeed, and I’ve channeled my passion for sports into training athletes at the middle school, high school, collegiate, and professional levels.

Outside of PHAST, I remained active in the school sports community, coaching Downingtown East varsity ice hockey from 2015–2019. During that time, we won four Flyers Cup Championships and back-to-back Pennsylvania State Championships in 2017 and 2018.

I love what I do—but none of this would be possible without the support of my wife, Lisa, who has stood beside me every step of the way (and even comes to games to cheer on our athletes). My “WHY” is my family—Lisa and our four kids (Nolan, Wyatt, Peyton, and Finn)—and every athlete we are privileged to train at PHAST.
